YANT newsletter 4 E-mail

4 February 2010

Hi All

Welcome back to your world of daily challenges!

We know you will all be pretty busy so this will be a short newsletter, and we will hope to keep them coming a bit more frequently this year once the new committee takes office.

Three quick items then!

New teachers at your school

If you know of new young teachers at your school please email this on to them.  We find we have a big turnover of YANT email addresses changing at this time and we are keen to reach all those who might be interested.  If we don’t have your own email address right, please tell us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The Beginning Teachers’ Handbook is now available in hard copy form and if your branch does not have a spare copy, your branch chair can obtain more from your local field office, or it can be downloaded from the PPTA website

A PPTA membership card

YANTs who got together at annual conference last year, coming from all parts of the country, were pretty enthusiastic about the proposal for a PPTA membership card that would be re-issued every two years.  This was possibly going to be a thin card that would be distributed embedded in a letter from National Office.  Although it was going to cost a relatively modest amount, it was not accorded a high priority at the executive meeting and did not survive a subsequent management committee mop-up of business not dealt with.

If you would like to see this revisited at the upcoming executive meeting, you need to briefly email your view to your local executive member – the list with attached email addresses is accessible here

Regional YANT representative

Concerns of young teachers are shared and discussed every year by the 23 regional YANT representatives and four representatives from the Auckland wards who attend the regional officer training day in Wellington, which this year is on 26 February.

If you region does not have a representative, your local concerns may not be raised, so you might want to check with your regional chair that you have someone coming.  You might even consider offering yourself for that role if it is not currently filled!  The list of regional chairs is available (but you have to be logged in as a PPTA member to access it).

This gathering is particularly critical for YANTs because the YANT committee is elected at it, and this committee works on identified YANT issues during the year.

Feedback or queries are welcome!
Cheers
