<description>The allowance is misleadingly named. It is not an allowance for long service but for improving your qualifications in a way which does not otherwise increase your maximum base scale rate (or for starting with higher than G3+ entry qualifications). The length of service component is a limitation - the allowance is paid only after you have been paid at your maximum rate for three years (whether that is the G1,2,3 or G3+ maximum). So after three years at the new maximum rate you will become eligible to claim if you have added to your qualifications.

<description>My pay slips say I have been teaching for 29 years 8 months and a few days.I am a PPTA member ahd have always been. I had been at the top of the G3 scale for about 20+ years and did not qualify for the service incr as I didnt have the quals reqd. (Even though I had an Adv Commerce Teach Dip)I have since completed a NZ Dip in Spec Subs and graduated. I am 'again' at the top of the new scale as a G3+. So I applied for the service incr (again) to be informed I don't qualify - I need to be at the top of this 'new' scale for 3 years. I am pretty disappointed to say the least.Could you please respond? I felt that a Service incr reflects dedicated service etc... it seems perhaps not.
Thanks
