Dear John (Hayes)

How I hate to write
But I must take offense
At your lack of common sense.
You called us all puppets
And that simply doesn’t cut it.
We are teachers of the youth
And we simply told the truth
The MOE offer, to say the least
Teachers, it tries to fleece
We aren’t playing any game
National though has gone insane
You mantra comes from every corner
And education will soon be poorer
"There’s no money,” says the World Cup
“There’s no money,” says the GST rise.
‘There’s no money, says bailed finance Co’s
“There’s no money,” says the Wynyard Quarter
Puppets, say what they’re told
Their comments come from a mould
We spoke, not a mantra, but our mind
Your comments were quite unkind
We want to improve learning conditions
You say the same
We know claw backs won’t work
We find your offer quite berserk
So stand up for the people
And say something new
Not the puppeted mantra
Of the free market view
If the offer changes not, relievers will be
The norm, not the filler of absence, you’ll see.
Coz no one will work, full time for that nonsense.
So it’s time for a dose of good common sense.
So no more insults and worn out words
Fight for an offer that members haven’t yet heard.
One that deals with concerns raised but ignored
Do something positive, we’ll all be floored.
Schools need teachers that like to be there
Not relievers with worksheets, the students they bore
This offer you’ll see
Will send us all, out the door.
So Wairarapa MP
You really should be
Not insulting your constituents
But trying to be
Someone who fights
For what is obviously right
Conditions that work for
teachers, for students and more.
