Accounting
(2009) Accounting curriculum development resources.

These resources should be viewed as ‘work-in- progress’, not as finished units to download and use.   They demonstrate a range of ways of thinking about how you might build the ‘front end’ of the NZ Curriculum (the Vision, Principles, Values, Key Competencies, Effective Pedagogies and Learning Area Statements) into your existing units of work, by re-focusing how you teach rather than changing what you teach.

(May 2009)  Preparing financial statements on balance sheet date.  This unit was chosen because it is likely to remain in the majority of Accounting courses due to its fundamental nature.  Financial statements can be taught at any year level and this unit plan guide can be reworked easily to fit the various levels. The process and thinking detailed on this unit plan should enable teachers to use a similar process with other units. This unit was also chosen because it is a good contrast to the other Accounting unit plan outline being prepared for the Curriculum Support days (for Year 11). Initially at first glance this unit did not appear to easily meet the front sections for the New Zealand Curriculum; however this turned out not to be the case.  Author:  Anne Dick (in consultation with Yvonne Daly).
(April 2009) The New Zealand Curriculum provides us with an opportunity to refocus on what is important in our programmes of teaching and learning. This unit was chosen for re-working as it provides a clear context in the real world upon which students can centre their learning.  The context, cash control for a household, can be easily identified by students and hence connections made with the cash control procedures and the importance of financial documents for their household.  Authors: Yvonne Daly (in consultation with Anne Dick)
