“We’re sending the prime minister a slice of New Zealands’ education history because we don’t want to see a repeat of the past through the introduction of charter schools”, says PPTA junior vice president Doug Clark.
“Clarence E. Beeby’s biography will give John Key insight into the thinking behind Beeby’s reconstruction of our education system. He turned it from being one that served the needs of the wealthy into a more equitable system, serving all young New Zealanders.”
“It didn’t work then and it won’t work now. We know times have changed since the 1940s; Beeby’s work still echoes a warning for today,” said Clark.
In the spirit of the season PPTA continues to help John Key build up a collection of reading by gifting him a book on each of the 12 working days until Christmas.
