New Zealand Post Primary Teachers' Association / Te Wehengarua (PPTA) advice to members regarding snow days and the length of the school year.
Where a school is closed as the result of an emergency (such as a snow day ) the school may be allowed to reduce by a corresponding amount the number of half days it is required to be open in a given year.
The school has to write to the local MOE seeking permission to do this.
Section 65E of the Education Act 1989 applies
