Teacher only days for standards realignment work

Advice from the New Zealand Post Primary Teachers' Association / Te Wehengarua (PPTA) regarding teacher only days for standards alignment.

TODs for standards realignment work

The purpose of the two 2011 teacher only days (TODs) is to give teachers time to work with colleagues on teaching and assessment using the realigned NCEA standards.

NZQA have developed some online support materials, which are intended to be used IF teachers wish. The NZQA supplementary resources do not have to be used on the designated TODs.

Some communities have arranged to close neighbouring schools on the same day to enable teachers in small departments to collaborate and share resources.

Collaborating across departments/schools is optional and should be applied to best meet teacher workload and needs.

The priority for these days should be to give teachers TIME to work on the realigned standards, not to participate in organised professional learning and development (PLD) sessions.

The TODs are to be used for NCEA standards realignment work - not for other school PLD.
