PPTA Annual Conference registration is now open!
Update: Sept 7, 2020: The PPTA executive has decided that our annual conference will take place in two locations joined by video link: Wellington (for North Island delegates) and Christchurch (for South Island delegates). Both venues will be limited to 100 attendees, as per level 2 rules.
In addition, a draft timetable is now attached above.
We will have more information for you soon.
Annual Conference is the policy engine of the PPTA. The decisions made at Conference determine the direction and work of our union. We are a member-led organisation, and Conference is a big way members' voices are heard.
It is a massive event, full of opportunities to network, participate in PPTA communities, hear from inspiring union leaders from around the world, and advance the cause of public education in New Zealand.
This year, Annual Conference will run from September 29 through October 1 at the Brentwood Hotel on Kemp Street in Kilbirnie, Wellington.
The start and finish times for conference are:
Assemble for Powhiri: 11.00am, Tuesday 29 September 2020
Conference finishes: 1.15pm, Thursday 1 October 2020
The conference will be livestreamed for those that cannot attend.
How to attend
You can only attend conference as part of your region's delegation, so you must contact your region's chairperson before registering for the conference. All delegates are expected to attend all conference sessions, including conference dinner on Wednesday.
Regional Secretaries need to notify national office of the names of all delegates as soon as they are known.
Everyone planning to attend Annual Conference must complete a registration form. Registration forms are available from your regional secretary, or you can fill out an online form:
If your school is in Wellington or Hutt Valley, register for Annual Conference here.
If you school is anywhere else in New Zealand, register for Annual Conference here.
Once registration forms are received, travel and accommodation bookings will be made.
An itinerary will be forwarded to delegates as soon as the bookings are made. Delegates are asked not to request changes (unless necessary) as changes are likely to incur additional charges and these may be passed on to them. Necessary changes may be authorised by DGS Policy. Please contact national office for assistance.
Delegates from the Wellington, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa, and Manawatū-Whanganui regions should travel by train, bus or car. Delegates from these regions travelling to conference by car are requested to car-share wherever possible. Those who bring their own car will be reimbursed at 79c per km.
Delegates from regions other than Wellington, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa and Manawatū-Whanganui, who are entitled to travel by air but choose to drive, are reimbursed either 79c per km or the average cost of a return airfare, whichever is the cheaper.
This year PPTA will cover the cost of accommodation in single rooms for Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
There are a limited number of rooms available at the Brentwood Hotel, so delegates will be accommodated not only at the hotel but also at hotels and motels close to the venue.
Any extra nights are at delegates’ own expense, unless airline schedules or the distance from their home to their nearest airport makes it necessary to arrive earlier or stay longer.
PPTA covers the cost of a continental breakfast. If people wish to have a cooked breakfast they must pay the additional $5.00 per breakfast when they check out.
Confirmation of registration will be emailed to delegates once the registration form is received and processed. This will also include any travel and accommodation arranged.
Delegates are asked to contact national office if they do not receive confirmation of their registration within one week of sending in the registration form.
During the week prior to conference a pre-conference pack will be emailed to all delegates.
