Health and Safety courses

PPTA offers health and safety training for new and existing health and safety representatives.

April 1 – August 30

Health and safety representatives hold one of the most important elected roles in a school. Trained health and safety representatives are responsible for promoting positive health and safety in the school environment, identifying risks and working with management to find solutions.

Elected health and safety representatives are entitled under the Health and Safety at Work Act to two days of training a year to attend initial and then additional training courses. Education is an important part of ensuring effective participation and engagement in health and safety.

PPTA health and safety training is specifically focused on schools and provides the opportunity to learn and network with other school health and safety representatives. The PPTA is part of the Worksafe Reps training programme and our courses are run by PPTA health and safety trainers who are experts in health and safety and the school environment. Courses are open to all staff working in secondary schools (not just PPTA members).

Our courses provide an understanding of the legislation and the opportunity to complete unit standard 29315; ‘Describe the role and functions of the Health and Safety Representative in a New Zealand workplace’.

The following courses are being offered in 2019.  We also offer “in-house’ courses for a reduced rate where a school hosts the course and has a sufficient number of participants.
