Principals’ Day - 29 July 2026

Principals are a key part of what makes public education a place for communities and opportunities to grow. We are joining with our primary sector counterparts, NZEI Te Riu Roa, to once again celebrate principals on 29 July.

Here are a few ideas of what you can do to acknowledge your principal on this day. Sample letters and messages are all on the PPTA website.

• Send them a letter of thanks on behalf of the branch. You can use the sample letter, adapt it, or write your own.  
• Write to the Presiding Member (chair) of your School Board and ask them to also show support for the Principal. Again you can use our sample letter, adapt it, or write your own.  
• Hold a Branch morning tea for your Principal.  
• Make a social media post (could be a video, a picture, just text – however you like to post) and use the hashtags #celebratingprincipals and #tumeketumuaki or share it with @NZPPTA on Facebook and Instagram
