Facilitation to occur for secondary collective agreement negotiations

The Employment Relations Authority has referred the PPTA Te Wehengarua and the Public Service Commissioner to facilitation for the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement negotiations.

“We will meet with the Authority next week to discuss the process and timeline,” says Chris Abercrombie, PPTA Te Wehengarua president.

Facilitation will involve the PPTA and the Commissioner presenting their positions to an Employment Relations Authority Member, who can choose to make recommendations and may share these publicly.

Any recommendation made by the Authority is not binding but must be considered.

“We hope facilitation will enable us to make real progress around the issues that are at the heart of our claims: agreeing on effective solutions to a worsening secondary teacher shortage and addressing the unmet needs of a growing number of secondary students.”

“We will not be making further comment at this stage in the process.”
