Housing Taskforce Self-Nomination

The PPTA Executive is seeking expressions of interest from members to join the National Housing Taskforce.

What will the taskforce do?

The national taskforce will be established to report on housing issues facing teachers. This work is as a result of the decision-making at the PPTA Te Wehengarua 2022 Annual Conference. The taskforce will investigate housing issues facing teachers, and the effect these have on teacher supply and retention, and on school communities and learner outcomes. This work may inform future campaigns and collective bargaining claims.

A full description of this kaupapa can be found in the 2022 Annual Conference paper, To Everyone a Home.

The taskforce will be comprised of a range of representatives from different areas to inform its work. Through the self-nomination process, we will be selecting representatives from both urban and rural areas in the North and South Islands (excluding Auckland), as well as a representative from the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland Region. Representation will also be sought from the Executive, Te Huarahi Māori Motuhake, and Komiti Pasifika.

What do I need to be a representative on PPTA’s Housing Taskforce?

  • You must be a member of the PPTA.
  • You must be able to get release from your school to attend taskforce meetings. This will likely involve one in-person meeting in Wellington, and one online meeting (during work hours). All travel and relief costs incurred will be covered by PPTA National Office.
  • You must be able to work collaboratively with a range of people to develop PPTA Policy.

Members of the taskforce who are representing the Executive, Te Huarahi, and Komiti Pasifika will be appointed by those bodies. Member representatives will be selected through the self-nomination process by the President and General Secretary, ensuring that there is a cross-section of member representation on the taskforce.

Expressing Interest

Members wishing to be considered for the Housing Taskforce should complete and submit the self-nomination form to ssenadeera@ppta.org.nz by Monday 11th March at 4pm.
