PPTA Te Wehengarua, Te Huarahi Māori Motuhake, warmly invites all kaiako from secondary schools, wharekura, and area schools to the PPTA Māori Teachers' Conference 2025, held in Rotorua from Rātapu 6 - Tūrei 8 Hūrae, 2025.


This hui marks a momentous occasion - celebrating 30 years of whakawhanaungatanga, mātauranga, and Māori educational leadership.


Kaupapa Matua / Conference Theme

''Ake, ake tonu atu - Resilience at its Finest"
Together, we will honour the unwavering strength of Māori educators and explore how resilience has shaped our collective journey in education.
 

Ngā Taipitopito / Key Information

Who can attend:

This conference is exclusively for kaiako in:

  •  secondary schools,
  • wharekura,
  • and area schools.

Due to capacity, we cannot accommodate attendees from primary or private schools.

Registration Details:

Fee: $115 including GST, per delegate. Registration includes:

  • All meals during the conference
  • Conference dinner (for registered attendees only)
  • Conference bag packed with resources
  • A commemorative conference T-shirt (please select your male-size option when registering, size selection closes June 6th)

Haerenga / Excursion Options - Tūrei 8 Hurae:

Kia whai wāhi atu koe ki te haerenga! Tipakohia tō kōwhiringa Tuatahi, me tō kōwhiringa Tuarua i te wā rēhita. Have the opportunity to participate in the haerenga! Please select your First and Second Choice during registration:

  1. Redwoods - Whakarewarewa Forest
  2. Te Puia - Māori Arts and Crafts Institute & Geothermal Experience
  3. Whakarewarewa - The Living Māori Village
  4. Hells Gate - Geothermal Reserve Tour
  5. Hells Gate - Mud Bath and Spa

We will do our best to place you on your preferred excursion. If your first choice is full or doesn't meet minimum numbers, we will use your second choice.
 

Wāhi Noho / Accommodation - Sudima Rotorua

  • Discounted accommodation is available at Sudima Hotel Rotorua until Paraire 6 Hune, 2025.
  • A booking link will be provided once your registration is confirmed - this must be used to access the special conference rates.

Ngā Pūtea Tautoko / Funding Support

  • Teachers should first apply to their school PLD fund and their PPTA regional body for funding assistance.

Subject Association Grant (SAG):

  • Kaiako teaching te reo Māori may be eligible for a SAG of up to $750 (including GST).
  • If kaiako are successful in receiving SAG funding, they should notify their kura and adjust any existing school PLD or PPTA regional funding applications accordingly.

We invite you to embrace the spirit of the conference theme 'Ake, ake tonu atu' by dressing in red, black, and/or white for the dinner!

Please note: the conference dinner is reserved for registered delegates only due to venue capacity. We are unable to accommodate additional guests. Ngā mihi for your understanding.
