NCEA

PPTA Te Wehengarua and secondary teachers have been the guardians of the NCEA over many years, because we can see its undoubted benefits for students. As a standards-based assessment system that is based on the principle that all students should have opportunities to succeed and to fulfil their potential, the NCEA has clear advantages over the previous norm-referenced qualification system, which had a built-in failure rate.

Information relating to NCEA can be found in the following places:

Our documents and PPTA Te Wehengarua policy page, which covers the first 10 or so years of NCEA, including the 2018 review and its outcomes.

Our NCEA change package page. This page covers the development and implementation of the change package, including information about the Accord NCEA teacher-only days. It is also a place to have your say, support PPTA Te Wehengarua members, and see workshops and other resources.

NZQA are in regular contact with each principal’s nominee and have also shared some of the key messages with us about processes to support grades for externals derived from school-based evidence.
