Nominations for Melanie Webber Award 2025

PPTA Te Wehengarua is proud to announce the launch of the inaugural Melanie Webber Award, honouring exceptional activism within the association. Created in consultation with Melanie herself, the award is a tribute to her enduring legacy and commitment to the profession. Nominations are now open, with full details on eligibility and process available through the General Secretary’s office.

Administrative Guidelines 2025

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Award, the nominee must currently be a full PPTA member.
Please do not share the fact a nomination is being progressed with the nominee.

Criteria

The following criteria are to be used to determine who the recipient of the award will be:

  • The member has shown leadership within PPTA Te Wehengarua over several years.  This could be at the branch, the regional, or the national level.
  • Has taken initiative to resolve problems at the branch, the regional, or the national level.
  • Encourages other members to become active in PPTA Te Wehengarua and to act collectively.
  • Is actively involved in advancing the goals of PPTA Te Wehengarua.
  • Demonstrates other special qualities worthy of recognition.
    N.B.    It is not a requirement that all criteria be met.

Process

The nomination process is as follows:

  • Nominations must be completed and signed by at least 2 current full members.
  • The nomination must be forwarded by email to the General Secretary for placement before the Awards Committee.

Closing date for 2025

Monday 30 June 2025 – endorsed nominations to be received by the General Secretary who convenes the Awards Committee.

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee will comprise:

  • the current Presidential Group (or nominees); and
  • the Kaumātua and Whaea (or nominees).

Four members will comprise a quorum of the Committee.

Decisions to confer the award will be by consensus, without any right of appeal.  If the Awards Committee does not receive any applications that meet the criteria, it may not be awarded in that year.

The Award will be:

  • a suitably engraved pendant or pin in silver or pounamu;
  • a suitable certificate; and
  • recognition in the Annual Report and/or PPTA News.

Administrative Matters

The following matters apply:

  • A nomination form is attached.  The nomination should explain clearly how the nominee meets the criteria underlined in paragraph 2 above.  Supporting documents may be attached.
  • There will be no quota on the number of members that can be nominated.

Summary

Each nomination must be made by at least two full current members. Nominations go to the General Secretary for placement before the Awards Committee.  Nominations need to be at national office by no later than 5.00 pm on MONDAY 30 JUNE 2025.
