We have good news on several fronts around the lump sum entitlement
For those on paid leave
Employees on paid leave since 13 June, including those on study leave, will now be paid automatically (without an application).
The previous advice was that teachers on approved leave, either paid or unpaid, on 13 June would need to apply for the lump sum when they returned to their positon, provided they returned on or before 28 January 2020. The rationale behind this change was that teachers currently on the payroll and continuing to receive salary should be paid the lump sum along with their pay.
For those teachers on paid leave who did not receive the lump sum on 31 July, the ministry is currently working through when it will be paid to you.
For those on parental leave
Eligibility for those on parental leave has been extended to 1 July 2020. If you are on parental leave and return to work on or before that date, you are eligible for the lump sum payment.
Upon return to work, you will need to apply for the lump sum payment through your school’s payroll administrator.

Here is a guide to your entitlement, as agreed with the ministry
Still teaching – permanent and long term teachers
A teacher who is still teaching and not on leave or a day reliever and was a PPTA member on 13 June is eligible for the lump sum payment and should receive it automatically on the 31 July.
Retired/resigned from teaching
A teacher who resigned or retired from their job after 13 June but who was a PPTA member on the 13 June is still eligible for the lump sum payment. You do not need to apply for this. If you did not receive it on July 31, the Ministry of Education is currently working through when it will be paid to you.
A day reliever who was a PPTA member on 1 July is eligible for a proportion of the lump sum payment. It will be paid on 31 July.
On leave with occasional day relief
A teacher who is on leave but has undertaken some occasional day relief and was a member on 13 June will be paid for the day relief portion of the lump sum on 31 July. Apply for the rest of the lump sum if you return by 28 January 2020, using the Novopay form NOVO31 form with "Lump Sum" in the subject line.
On unpaid leave from June 13, returning on or before January 28
If you are on extended unpaid leave from June 13, and return to work on or before January 28 2020 you are eligible for the lump sum payment and will need to apply on your return to work through your school’s payroll administrator.
On unpaid leave from June 13, not returning on of before January
If you are on extended unpaid leave from 13 June, and do not return to wrok on or before January 2020 you are not eligible for the payment
You must let PPTA know if you are on unpaid leave.

What the Terms of Settlement actually say:
The parties agree that all full-time teachers who are members of the NZPPTA and are covered by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement as at 13 June 2019 are entitled to receive a one-off gross payment of $1,500. The payment will be pro-rated for part-time teachers based on their full-time teacher equivalent (FTTE) as at 13 June 2019.
Teachers who are members of the NZPPTA and were covered by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement as at 13 June 2019 and on that day were on approved leave under Part 6 of this collective agreement are entitled, upon application on their return, to receive the one-off gross payment of $1,500, or pro-rated payment, on the return to their position providing that they return on or before 28 January 2020.
Short-term relievers, as defined in clause 3.2.5, who are members of the NZPPTA and covered by the Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement as at 3pm on the 1 July 2019 shall be entitled to receive the one-off gross payment of $1,500 pro-rata based both on their employment status and on the proportion of the total number of school days (140) between 19 October 2018 and 30 June 2019 inclusive, for which they have been employed.
A teacher may not receive more than $1,500 gross in total.
